This is my last bookcover, Hamlet. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do, but I had an idea that I wanted to have liquid pouring out of some kind of cup, representing the poison that kills the King, Hamlet's father. I decided to make the vase/cup out of text, and i used a transparent layer for the background, underneath was a layer of text showing through. I used a zapfino font and used text as the binding.

Voila' here's book cover #2 MACBTEH. I created the eyeball out of magazine cut outs, with a background of textured red paper. I chose the font "glouchester" and there ya go. Sinister and evil.. just the way I like it.

Here's the back cover!

Here are the list of fonts I'm choosing from

Here is the start of the bookcover for MacBeth. I want this cover to represent the evil that overtakes the entire story. My favorite characters are the most sinister of all.. the Witches. Lady MacBeth is also quite conniving and manipulative, and I want to show that feeling of cruelty that they all possess. My sketches were immediately bloody daggers, bloody hands, etc. The obvious imagery from the play. I wanted to put emphasis on the feeling of the book, and that's where I came up with the red pupiled eyeball. I think it accurately shows the evil and supernatural going on. I made up the eye with pieces from magazines, and for the eyelashes, i took a photo of a giant eye (a makeup ad) and copied the lashes onto a transparent paper. Now for fonts and text! Woo.

FINISHED

Here is the back cover of As You Like It.

I wanted the cover to portray the feel of the play. The story is a comedy, and the characters live playfully in the woods instead of their castle. This cover shows that it is not sinister, evil, or tragic. I added the text, I chose a font that wasn't too scripty, wasn't too modern, and seemed just right for the woods theme.

Shakespeareian Book Coversssss

SO heres the new project. We're doing bookcovers for 3 shakespeareian novels.. i picked As You Like It, MacBeth, and Hamlet. We are only allowed to use images cut out from magazines or paper. Here is As You Like It so far.

This is my final product, That's How Strong My Love Is. I was really interested in using the negative space for something, so I opted to put the dark bold text in the background to create a contrast with the tiny font. I put the repetitive chorus lines of the song in the bold, because I felt that they were most important. The clouds and rays of light are made up of the lyrics. I enjoyed drawing the large font more than the small, because it was easier to pay attention to detail. For the smaller font I kind of had to free hand a lot of it, because it didn't transfer as well. I am pleased with the way it all turned out.
